Riana Porter
Riana Porter is a Person-Centred Practitioner working in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham. Her qualification is a Higher Professional Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy. She is also an accredited member of the BACP.
Riana offers a confidential, supportive and accepting space where clients can feel free to share their experiences, feelings and be heard for who they are. She seeks to engage with clients within a co-created and supportive therapeutic relationship, facilitating the client’s self-exploration, increased self-awareness and a deeper connection to their resources and true self. Her approach holds you, the client, at the centre of the work. She believes only you truly know what goes on for you and where you want to be. She believes it is the client that holds the key to their personal growth.
With a background in sales, customer care and administration, Riana has experience in workplace, stress and conflict resolution. She understands the pressures people can face so aims to create a safe space to listen and facilitate the client through their growth. Riana appreciates that entering into a counselling relationship can bring up difficult and painful feelings, however she believes ‘the relationship is the therapy’, and that this can be a life changing and enhancing process.

I started to visit Riana on a weekly basis at a very low point – and when I had run out of tools to help myself independently. Almost two year later, and Riana has helped me navigate some massive changes in my life, such as a new job, mending rifts with family and friends, and embarking on a new relationship – each change coming with its own unique challenges, and learning a lot about myself in the process. Riana met my issues with patience and wisdom and allowed me to find inner strength by being a source of stability for me when I felt life was turned upside down. I thoroughly recommend Riana and The Awareness Centre – thank you!
Riana was very easy to talk to and put me at ease from the initial consultation. We worked on areas of my self concept and limiting beliefs and how this was rooted back to childhood. Riana helped me understand my triggers and how to identify them, analyse and change my way of thinking. Within 6 sessions i felt so much more confident in being able to address my issues and i know this is ongoing work in progress. Riana is honest, caring and very professional in her approach and genuinely wants the best for her clients. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone considering counselling. I know that if ever i needed to return to therapy, she would be the ideal counsellor for me.
I have never had this kind of experience but find this really helpful and helps me alot and in different way. Im grateful to come to therapy and it changed my life.
I was so impressed how quickly everything was put into place, that was very, very helpful. It is my first experience of talking therapies and its been very helpful and I would look towards continuing it and using it again at times when I feel very over-whelmed. Riana has been really good listener and able to remember lots of different things and offer different strategies to manage things better on my own. Many thanks to the service.
I had never experienced a talking therapy before so was a new experience for me. I had imagined it would be directional with the therapist telling me what to do to get better. Over the weeks. I came to realise the better approach is to find the strength in yourself.
Riana has really helped me to resolve some of my many issues.
