Dan believes that providing clients with a safe, calm and confidential environment, free from any judgement, enables them to tap into the difficult thoughts and feelings they may be experiencing, and for a therapeutic relationship to develop so these can be explored. He believes in an emphatic, compassionate approach that is tailored to each individual client. Dan uses a non-directive and person-centred style that allows individuals to prioritise what they need to process at their own pace. At times Dan will adopt a more psychodynamic style, exploring past events to see if certain behavioural patterns emerge in conversation. Dan believes that by facing their challenges in a safe and controlled way, clients eventually tap into inner resources, developing their own potential and finding a deeper meaning in their lives and a more rooted sense of self.
Dan has worked in the mental health sector for nearly a decade before deciding to retrain as a counsellor. During this time he explored art and music therapy in clinical group settings. He also studied, practised and taught meditation and mindfulness techniques, that he sometimes integrates into therapy sessions.
Dan is bilingual and speaks Italian fluently, having lived and studied in Italy for over 15 years, and can conduct therapy sessions in Italian.
Dan is an integrative counsellor that works from his private practice in South West London and from The Awareness Centre in Clapham. He has an advanced diploma in therapeutic counselling and is a registered member of the BACP.
