The Awareness Centre (TAC) is delighted to be working with the NHS across four South London boroughs; Lambeth, Wandsworth, Sutton and Lewisham, ensuring that residents of those boroughs have access to free time-limited counselling when they need it.
For over five years, we have built incredible working relationships with Talk Wandsworth and Lambeth Talking Therapies, ensuring that the service we offer to their clients continues to meet and exceed expectations.
Our contracts with Sutton Uplift and One Health Lewisham are newer, having been awarded to TAC in the last four years. However, they are already gaining momentum with an increasing number of clients self-referring or being referred via other healthcare providers. We are delighted to be able to offer our services to these communities.
We are also proud to say that we have been at the forefront of returning to face-to-face counselling sessions in three out of the four boroughs, after having quickly pivoted to remote sessions in 2020. We are steadily working to be able to offer face-to-face sessions in all four of our contracts.
How do you run a counselling service?
They say, “it takes a village”, and running a counselling service is no different. To ensure that the counselling services we provide to the NHS run smoothly, we have a team of professionals working tirelessly behind the scenes.
Our counselling services are supported by a host of Team Leaders, Clinical Supervisors, Counselling Administrators, Counselling Coordinators, and Counselling Service Managers – not to mention the trainee and qualified placement counsellors who provide the counselling sessions.
What is it like to be a placement therapist with TAC?
We ensure that each of our placement therapists has multiple touchpoints within the organisation so that they can carry out their counselling sessions confident in the knowledge that they are fully supported. Each placement therapist has a team leader, supervisor and counselling administrator, covering all their professional needs.
Their team leader is responsible for ensuring they are proficient in the NHS and TAC computer systems, that their administrative tasks are completed and that support is provided for any administrative tasks that they need help with.
Our clinical supervisors provide bi-monthly group clinical supervision sessions as well as remote support between supervision sessions when needed, and our counselling administrators support the onboarding of new placement counsellors, ensuring that they are ready to begin seeing clients.
If you are a Level 4 (or above) therapist and are interested in embarking on a placement within the NHS, please get in touch. We are continually recruiting therapists to work within our NHS services across south London
